Good news I have actually found Norman Bates, he is living in Blackpool and running a small hotel, this guy is a complete nutter!
About a year ago I was vending another hotel in the same street when his (Psycho's) wife asked me if I would top up their snack machine.
They explained that a previous vendor had left the machine there, I found this a little odd!
Odder still was the fact that it was (according) to them stocked up and the money was in the machine (but no keys).
Now, I'm not tight, but unless you were a family member or a very good mate, I'm not going to give you a vending machine plus stock, value about £180+
Anyway, I filled up their machine and have done so for the last year.
She seemed calm enough but I noticed he was a bit "twitchy".
Not a very good site, probably 200 sales in 12 months, but as I did not need to supply a machine it seemed okay.
As to "their" machine, I noticed it was marked up in a specific way. About one month ago I bought a machine from a fellow local vendor and he marked his machines up in exactly the same way.
As I had not visited them for three months I called on them last week but no one was in. So I rang them yesterday.
I simply asked him if the machine needed vending and what had gone from the machine, if something is not selling I can replace it with something else, pretty normal question?
Apparently not, for him.
He flipped out, and I was called every name under the sun!...he was shouting and slammed the phone down!
I think I sat there amazed for a minute then I called him back.
I asked him what was the problem?
Off he went again, except this time he threatened to "do me in", and again slammed the phone down.
I decided (you may not be surprised) that I did not really want this guy's business. Now if I decide to remove a machine I can normally turn up and pick up the machine and leave, but in this case I would have to sit there vending the stock, while enjoying his running commentary.
I decided to try once more, so I rang an hour later and told him I would be emptying the machine the next day, Psycho part 3, serious character assassination, phone slammed down again!
So I decided to consult the Police, they agreed that a Officer would attend with me the next day.
So today, I turned up at the door, the second he saw the Police Officer he smiled a "time for a shower" smile and let us in.
The second I started vending he and his wife started yelling at me, if I had not had the Officer with me, I think I would have lost my temper with them and as it was their hotel, it would have looked bad for me.
Fortunately the copper knew his job, and yelled at them to shut up and calm down, he even said that their behavior was approaching a breach of the peace.
They calmed down after that and apart from a few comments I emerged with my stock, unscathed.
I then informed the Officer that I believed the machine to belong to a fellow local supplier (I have informed him also(he tells me he has had many machines stolen!)) and the Police will be looking in to it!
I hope I have heard the last of this guy, there is enough crap in the world without nutters like him.
So if you stay in a small hotel in Blackpool and there is a empty vending machine on the bar, watch out!
