Question. On a coin mech there are two teeth to stop the mech turning clockwise without a coin and one to stop it turning anti clockwise.
As the mech wears and the slot the £1 drops into gets bigger one of the teeth stopping the clockwise turn tends to stop the mech turning even with a coin in. In the past I have taken a file to the coin carrier to get it working again but recently I have tended just to remove that tooth. I havent had a problem with this to date but just wondering if anyone else has tried this and experienced problems.
It just seems to be a 2nd fail safe to me.
Thanks
Andy

Re: Tower coin mech
Hi Andy
I fully understand the issue that you describe which is not an uncommon occurrence.
We found the most effective solution was to remove the "pawl" (spring loaded finger) and to file a gentle radius onto it's leading lower corner. This has the effect of gliding over the coin and when it strikes the sharp corner of the coin slot the radius encourages the pawl to ride the coin carrier.
I strongly do not suggest removing the pawl completely as this is the major security feature preventing an undersize or no coin situation allowing the consumer to turn/force the coin mechanism.
I hope this is of help to you.
Kind regards,
Barbara

Yep agree with Barbara on this one. Best to take the mech home and put the pawl in a vice. It can be done on site but it'sa pain with mMole grips in one hand and file in the other.

There's an even easier way to file the pawl. If you are on site and you need to modify the pawl and you haven't got a file with you, a quick and easy way to radius the pawl leading edge is to remove it from the mech and find a suitable paving stone or brick and rub the pawl on the stone/brick to radius the leading edge. It works a treat and saves a return visit.
