coin mech jams

Hi

i was wondering how many coin mech jams you guys get on average per week as i have had about 5 that have jammed now on new Vending Revolution machines that have only been sited for about 6 weeks

Do you know what is causing the jam. Is the coin not ejecting, or is the coin not travelling past the first finger. Is it just certain coins, or most.

1 The coin that did not eject:
Some coins are slightly bigger than others and some coin carriers are too small for thye coin. If the coin that wont eject is tight in the carrier, then the carrier needs opening up ever so slightly. I use a dremel type bit in my drill to do this, but dont take much off, or the finger will get between the coin and the carrier and it wont vend period.

2 Not getting past first finger.
The finger is hitting the coin carrier as the coin is not lifting it up enough, as it travels through. You can see this happening if you put a coin in and watch the finger.

Take the first finger out. be careful with the spring. chamfer down the leading edge ( the one that hits the side of the coin) You can use a file for this. I have used a concrete kerb edge before now, if at a site with no file etc.

thanks paul with one that was jammed i sprayed a small ammount of wd-40 and it freed up i was surprised that they dont have any lubricant in the mechanism (small ammount of grease or something like that) or is that not a good idea

No Not really.
Grease atracts dirt and grit causing premature wear of the mech!
Grease also goes gummy and causes the two little spring loaded fingers that rachet around the coin carrier too become stuck enabling machine to go on free vend!
WD 40 is fine though!

I have found that WD40 works fine for freeing up a slow mech, but you are better off getting a can of Tygris Copper Anti Ssieze spray. This is used in the motor industry. It leaves a thin film of lubricant, which lasts quite a while.

Also, its not always the mech that stiffens the process- its the back of the barrel, where it rotates. I always put sythetic lubricant on that frequently. You can get a long tube for it, which enables you to spray the barrel from inside the pot ejection tube, but you need to turn the tower on its side and rotate the mech at the same time to fully lubricate it. Doing this lessens the chance of a barrel break.
