Lost keys for Tower Cashbox - Any advice on drilling lock?

Post by JustCraig »

As abaove really - I have misplaced a key for one of my machines (cashbox key for a Clenport tower) and have found a site for it. Well I say misplaced - I mistakenly gave the wrong keys away when I sold a job lot of machines and the guy I sold them too claims to have posted them back to me....two weeks ago....so they have either been lost in the post or they were never sent. Anywho, that doen't matter anymore because they are gone and I need to get another....

I have heard about people "drilling" locks but never really thought about the practicality of it up until now.

Do you do exactly as it suggests? find a power drill and drill down the centre of the lock? Any particular size (thickness)? How easy/difficult is it? I notice replacement locks sell on eBay for next to nothiong so I imagine replacing it will be easy enough.

Any advice before attempting this would be greatly appreciated :)

If anyone is interested, It is an 8 tier clenport (I think) if anyone knows what key I will need to replace, it would also be much apreciated (A long shot I know but worth a try lol....)

Most Clenports can be unlocked with a 6048 key alternatively you can hacksaw off the lock.

Cheers Pete, I shall try that. Is hacksawing it easier than drilling? Sounds like it might be!

Does drilling the lock doesn't actually work?

As Pete says dont drill, use a hacksaw (you may bite into the backplate a bit)

I have drilled locks for larger vending machines and although easy is messy, no need with the make up of a Pringles tower lock.

I havent got a spare key but if you ring Rockvend or Hurleys or Midland Vending I am sure they will send you one

hi, I have a few of these 6048 keys so will send you one if you can give me your address and couple quid to cover postage. I'm in London until Friday though so wont be able to post it until Monday.

Drilling takes 30 seconds to do, just gotta get right size drill and not one from the pound shop. Get a proper drill bit and its like hot knife through soft butter :-)

Try the Hi Tech drill bits they work for me . They are pricey but save you lots of time and hassle .
