What we do when we get damaged stock is empty them into Maxi tubs , bang on a small label and sell them on . At least you don't loose any money. **** happens in business and a smart business person will find a way of dealing with it and put it in place . Hence problem solved permanently. Do this with every problem that comes up and adopt it as proceedure . Don't sweat the small stuff. I agree problems should be reported on here to alert everyone to them and share solutions but don't let problems take over and eat up resources too much. Not saying anyone is, just saying.

Hi there. As regards the damaged machine and stock I already agreed to credit the customer when he ordered next - a small scratch on a machine is difficult to quantify in pound notes and as the customer is so far away, it seemed sillly to bring the machine back. There is never an issue with replacing damaged stock as it hardly ever happens. The 3 damages to the one customer is perfectly true. We have a s**t and lazy UPS driver who we have now commplained about. Absolutely no point in putting an insurance claim in for a few pots as you speak to someone in Lithuania or Timbuktu and get absolutely no where.
Unfair criticism I feel of something that is so obviously beyond our control but fortunately happens very infrequently indeed.

Paul,

Whilst I agree with you 'preventative' is better than 'remedial'.

The financial cost is not a shallow matter of compensation or replacement stock, it is the disruption to your customers and the hassle (time) of dealing with what on the surface of things seems a trivial matter. In relative terms to your smaller operators one smashed case could mean several sites not being visited or many machines being short-filled to make what stock they have go further resulting in a shortened service interval.

Those photos posted tell their own story, cheap Asian source corrugated boxes which are soft offering little or indeed no protection probably for ecomomy of re-using shipping cartons from your imports. Good solid cartons and if using a pallet service underpack the cases to allow your pots somewhere to move (empty space) should a fork etc penetrate the wall of the carton. Just a few quid a shipment more, which you could save by not using UPS and all would lay equal...

Get the box, keep your clients happy and prevent the problems as best possible expecting the carrier to do their worst. It'll still happen but you took steps before it did.

Dave. Dont know where youre coming from. Our boxes are all UK made, are more than thick enough for the purpose required - ANY box will break if the driver decides to throw it around. The fact that we send out dozens of parcels a week via the same courier company and we have only had a repeated problem with the one driver/ destination shows are boxes and pots are more than capable of the job they are required to do.
I dont need you to tell me about how any breakages disrupt business - we have our fair share of damages when having goods delivered to us as do other suppliers.

If a fork penetrates a carton, all the packing of the day isn't gonna protect the tubs. But I agree prevention is better than cure, but not always possible. I was a lorry driver for years in a previous life and have to say , especially in courier work, I never saw 1 driver give a **** about his parcels. HGV which s the end I was in was a different story because you were dealing with pallets and maybe 1 to 2 customers per load. But courier work, drivers didn't give a ****. Didn't do courier work myself but worked out of several depots that did it. The concern for peoples parcels was absolutely appalling. And the theft was HUGE.

Huh? No it was just the first 'to hand' image I could think of showing our standard shipping cartons, this is the image from eBay for Lady Bah Bah inflatable sheep...

If you are aware of a problem with deliverys then its best to let people know so it can be sorted.
I am aware of a problem with deliveries, but I am reluctant to get involved in this discussion as I may get my head bitten off from some people..

"It's best to let people know so it can be sorted," is that forum policy? if it is it's not working as I have made everyone aware of several things and been treated like, well we all know!!!
