Re: Are tubz vending followers or leaders?
I think it is a very tricky road, You are right Noel, 1 £2 pringle pot would Kill the mini can but potentially when the £2 pringle pot becomes unviable like the £1 mini can we would all go back to £2 mini cans!
I think alot of the future in vending long term is toys and they are probably and much more adaptable and constant market.

Noel,
Do you not agree that the mini-can is already dying if not a dead format? I think what Jonny is doing, selling products with perceived value is good and the type of diversification that I meant, as is the step-up to a larger can now rather than later for consumable / food products in that same vein...
To clarify, I am not saying any other type of vending is any better at making profit but condom vending should be a historical reference point for those in tower vending to look back at and compare the mistakes made by many. There's so many rusty old condom machines out there making the point from the heady days of AIDS in the 80's when condom machines were gold mines, in other words if you don't keep up with market trends the operator could go the way of the dinosaur. Condom vending has already taken the backward step - compare what Jonny says about the larger can going back to the minican retaining the £2 price - in that most now sell two or one condom for a quid, this used to be three condoms or more for four quid in Durex machines and there was no national consistancy in product format.
As to suppliers, well I for one am not saying God Worship is expected but personally I'm greatful for every sale from every customer. What I am saying is that so long as a supplier clients are being treated equally, fairly and given the same opportunity as any other then respect is due to your supplier even though they are a business making that dirty of dirty words, profit. Tensions are understandable when it comes to this topic and everyone wants what the other guys have more of whatever that 'it' might be, I am not disagreeing with you but I think we are looking at this from two very different angles...
Jonny, I was approached by a tennis club last summer asking me to vend tennis balls. Would a ball fit into a Pringles sized tub, it might be one to consider?

I tell you what you might have found a little gold mine there, They wouldn't fit in a pringle pot but they almost definately would a bouley toy machine. They would make a fortune in all good tennis clubs / leisure centres with indoor tennis facilities.
One to think about.
Cheers

David
Minicans are not dead, by a long margin. Everything is dying slowly, so they wont last for ever, but it is prudent to look at options now, rather than try and introduce something, when the death occurrs.
Personally, I think the larger pot is ok for certain pre packed items, but it will hold too many loose sweets to be a viable option, (Skittles for instance) and will be too much for the average person to consume.

...and that is the fundamental problem Nigel.FlintVending wrote: "...Think about it, how much would a washroom machine that had NINE selections cost, £500 + ?? and what kind of turnover can you get from a washroom machine, certainly nothing like a tower in the same site.
The Only product that has a reasonable turnover in the washroom is the Goldenroot in my experience. I am Not having ago at Naughty Vend and have met David and I must say I think his concept and products are very good indeed! Its just that there are alot more suitable sites out there for towers than there arefor Naughty novelty products in the washrooms!
At one time I operated over 1200 condom machines and my turnover was no more than I can do with 200 towers!

Many sites are just not suitable for the products we sell and the lean toward food in licensed premises limits us even more than ever, so we need to do what we do better and like you've said the simple machine at low cost for faster return is critical.
We've got two products exceeding sales 'unit for unit' compared to blue capsules at the moment, which as you know must be sold as food supplements and this is marginally having an effect upon sales because the marketing material / product label must comply with food regs as does the capsule content. That's also a massive problem in Ireland more than any other county at the moment because even food supplements need a registration number and a ten month suspended scentence has already been intimiated to somone I know unless sales ceased immediately, so that's no laughing matter... this is a European law administrated by each country. We, the industy, just can not afford to lose this business. However on comparative turnover to condom machines there is no comparison, I ripped a condom machine out two months ago and installed a machine selling inflatable sheep and blue capsules... February / March £32... April / May £136... same site, same bogs, different products.
Turnover, is all good when the profit magins are in there too. The turnover of £136 above would have been £72.80 profit after paying 15% commission when items were purchased at standard wholesale, in my mind if you make roughly 40p a minican as another poster illustrated then you'd need to sell 182 cans in the same period as I sold 20 x sheep and 9 blue pill. Now I don't know (seriously) but would a mini-can machine sell that quantity in nine weeks?

You're welcome and thanks, appreciated. Why not brand the ball with your logo...?Jon123 wrote:I tell you what you might have found a little gold mine there, They wouldn't fit in a pringle pot but they almost definately would a bouley toy machine. yes, in a good site 20 sales a week is quite easy to achieve although the average site produces half that!
Thanks for balanced reply, you make some very valid points
cheers

I am not in the vending business yet, but as far as I can see, the wholesale prices for filled 1 pound pots are going down, not up in recent months.
Profit margin is going up, so who or what is dying?

Yes, but if they are selling more, then they are probably making more profit than they were at higher prices. More operators are likely to start if prices are low and stable. I think its a win win situation, for both suppliers and operators.
