Building a saleable business

Post by JustCraig »

I was wondering what peoples thoughs are on this.

I don't intend on selling my round any time soon, but I imagine this will be the plan at some point. My only concern is that from what I have seen, vending rounds don't seem to sell for much money.

Rounds on eBay seem to sell for next to nothing or don't seem to attract any interest at all.

Is this because they are just tiny rounds consisting of just a few mis-placed machines or is this because there is no real exit strategy available for vending operators?

I think the majority of rounds on ebay you see are disheartened 'franchisees' that have been led up the garden path expecting to be retired on 100k a year after 6 months and a 20k investment.

Yeah I get that, I guess that is why the rounds seem to sell for next to nothing but what about established businesses? 50/100/200+ multi machine rounds - do they generate much interest if they come up for sale?

You dont often see them for a reason, as when you have built your vending round up to a decent income then you can start earning the money. Thats the hardest part with vending, building it up to bring in a decent income.

If your buying machines at the right money and getting the right sites then your business value will grow. Also, some form of contract will add value to the business undoubtably.

i think you dont see them so much because they are TOO good to sell, not because they are unwanted. i think if i wanted to sell I'd discreetly contact existing operators rather than go through the hassle of dealing with people who don't know about the industry and might not understand how quickly the pennies make the pounds, so i imagine most sales are not even advertised.

It doesn't take a huge amount of time to make a decent income from vending, once all the hard work of building a round is done, and so I think people tend not to sell. There is a guy near me who inherited a massive round from his dad, mostly mechanical vending machines.

And of course having a decent siting service attached to your business to help any new owner grow their business ;) I was really looking for the 'blowing my own trumpet' smiley but that one will do..... :-)
