Hi Matt or Steve

I have a couple of messages that I thought I sent last night and having checked my message box this morning it states that I have two messages in my "outbox".

If the messages are still in the "outbox" does it mean that the recipient has not opened the message yet or is there something I have not clicked?

As you mentioned, it just means they haven't opened the message yet
