Help with research
Hi guys hope your all well.
I have finally found somebody who is willing to put some money up for the machine i have been designing over the last few years.
I have also come up with a new product that i think you guys may be interested in.
I need to do a bit of research first though so i can get the numbers right and guarantee the investment.
I Was wondering if you could help me by answering a few questions?
I am trying to find out how many sales of certain products you make each week and how many sales of each product you think are sold throughout the UK in a single week. I am only looking for averages not dead on figures.
How many machines do you operate? Just the total of Sweet towers, Pringles towers and capsule machines. I don't need to know how many of each unless you want to tell me.
So how many Tubs of sweets do you sell on a weekly basis (on average)?
How many Pringles do you sell on a weekly basis? (on average)
How many capsulated products do you sell on a weekly basis? (on average)
I am trying to figure out the total amount of sales our industry makes during a week.
Would i be right in thinking the average operator has maybe 50 of these machines? (a mix of sweet towers, pringles and capsules)
Each machine makes on average 5 sales per week? (i have no idea on the sales!)
So 50 machines x 5 sales per machine is 250 sales per week for the average operator?
How many of the three types of machines do you think are being operated in the UK on a weekly basis?
I was thinking that maybe there are 20-40 thousand machines (as a total) operating in the UK on a weekly basis???
So 20 thousand machines making 5 sales per week each would be around 100 thousand product sales per week for the 3 machines i mentioned above?
I am not interested at this point in bulk vendors just the Sweet Towers, Pringles towers and capsule machines.
Hope you can help.
Thanks, Lee.

Hi Lee,
I doubt that ppl will give you the detailed info, but if you work on an average of 35 to 40 tower sales per month, you wont be far out. No idea how many ops doing towers, but say 200, with 150 towers as an average.

Re: Help with research
I think 30000 towers is fair guestimate, we did do some research on number of towers operated by members but cant remember much on figures (don't know if anyone else can remember)
Daft as it sounds have you tried ringing hurleys & tubs?

Re: Help with research
One more thing.
If i could sell you something for between 5p and 7p to add to tubs of sweets or capsules would you be interested or would it put too much strain on your margins?
It's something that would increase your sales. How much by i don't know. Let's say a 10-20% increase in sales as a guess.
Would it be worth an extra say 7p to increase your sales by 10-20%?
If not what would be worthwile?
I would also be able to give you data about the people buying your products. Their age, gender, Favorite toys, favorite sweets etc etc.

Re: Help with research
Could be interesting however the margins are now tight enough in my opinion so the sales would have to be far greater. As for demographics I honestly couldnt care less as long as my swets are sold................................. I already know which are the most popular as they sell the quickest???? Unless I am missing something

Re: Help with research
I only operate a few toy towers now, but my personal opinion would be no. I never agreed with putting premium products into a machine with limited capacity. Limited capacity you need to maximise profit per sale. Larger machines with larger capacity then yes I would add a premium priced product (or an extra 7p per vend as you suggest)
Only my opinion though and I know everyone has different views on premium products.

Re: Help with research
Ok thanks.
Let me explain a little better.
I am not saying putting a different product in the towers i mean adding something to the tub of sweets or capsulated toy to add value to the customer.
If for example you have a tower from perform next to yours and you are selling the same range of sweets but you have my "idea" included with your tub then i am sure your tower would be the one that takes all the sales. Who knows you may even increase sales by 50 or even 100%!
Also i don't mean upping the vend price by 7p i just mean increasing the operators cost price by 5-7p.
Oh sod it i may as well tell you a little more.
It's a sticker to go on your tub of sweets or capsule. The sticker is very clever though and does a lot more than you would imagine!!!
