Re: Investment ideas
I always thought landlords had to use an external company for fruit machines (something to do with licensing? I have a few quiz machines yet to be sited - no need for a license with them but the turnover is said to be quite low.

Hi Andy,
Have you tried crowdfunding as an investor. A relative of mine used crowdcube to raise £120K for a startup business venture. Apart from return on investment from the target business, if you are a tax payer, you can claim tax relief on your original investment.
Pete

Re: Investment ideas
The licencing has changed on them recently, I would check up to be safe. I believe the machine has to actually be skill with a genuine chance of winning. Unlike the old quiz machines which worked on the principal that they would pay out a set percentage (usually 30%) but only when they were ready to pay out and if the user was 'skillfull' enough to win it.Cannyvending wrote:I always thought landlords had to use an external company for fruit machines (something to do with licensing? Landlords can own their own machines and licence themselves, they rarely do as it needs to be changed so often it just wouldn't be viable. For an operator with 20 or so sites, they purchase a new machine, and simply move them as time goes on from the best sites down to the worst. Finally selling them off after they have done a rotation of all sites.
If you were an unlicensed operator (which in itself is illegal as you cannot purchase or site any machines, except for home use, without one) they tend to get around it buy getting the landlord to say they own the machine. This was from when I checked about 18 months ago.
But be warned the fine for operating unlicenced machines is about 10k I believe!!!!

Re: Investment ideas
I looked at it last year. THe licence was really expansive, 5k from memory. You would need quite a few sites very quickly to make money.

Re: Investment ideas
Thought it was just £1k a year for the license. Too much for me as I would need lots of machines out etc.. The quiz machines are gameswarehouse ones so i will update them before siting them
You could try zopa as the risk is spread out and they dont lend to plebs.
