personally i find it easier grinding original plates, no worries then bout handle coming off on site when you`ve messed with sur clip.
the first lever that pound coin passes through 9 times out of 10 has to be rounded off on the end or you will find it wont accept the old pound coin as lever catches on edge of coin plate as new one is bigger it lifts lever no prob but old one is smaller and dont lift it as high after grinding. on some ive even filed edge of rhs of coin carrioer to allow it to pass with old pound coin.
also retention spring needs to not have to much tension on it or again old pound coin wont go through.
coin plate change is only half of the job .

Re: New £1 coin farce
I''ve done over 600 so far by fitting new plates. 95% of my sited machines have had the new mechs fitted. The only ones I grind out are if new plates are not available. I started with about 100 spare mechs and just kept recycling untill the job was done.
I can't see how you can attempt a mech upgrade without having a new pound coin to try out for size? The problem is the new coin has a larger diameter and most mechs need to be ground out to allow the new coin to pass freely. It's all the grinding in the tight spots to get the mech to move freely that counts.
Good luck with it all!

Latest on the farce in my world. Whatever you have budgeted for this add a load on. Cost of plates, cost of time to fit plates and mechs, wrecked mechs, (ive had several back plates fall to pieces), cost of sweets lost when your machine free vends, loss of sales when the mechs jam, loss of sales because people have the wrong coin, loss of sites you would have gained if you hadn't been spending all you time on this.

Re: New £1 coin farce
Free vends are normally caused by the elbow thinkiymajig on the right side or the mech as you look at it from behind dislodging. This means the mech can turn backwards. On the main plate the hole it sits in wears out a bit i have been tapping the edges of this hole down a bit with a hammer and a metal punch. The hole then becomes a tiny tiny bit smaller and the elbow is less likley to dislodge

Re: New £1 coin farce
I have found the 5p fix can cause the towers to jam sometimes! Has anyone else found this? It makes the coin mech stick out a little bit and perhaps lowers the drum a fraction causing the jams?
I will try the hammer and metal punch Brian

when 5p is in place and back plate on, take a file to remainder of 5p and file it flat and thinner

In Truth, No two mechs are EXACTLY THE SAME!
Many of us operators have Chinese machines which all have mechs that were reverse engineered, most all of dubious quality, some have tighter tolerances than others.
This is not a one plate fits all project!
If you can modify your own as you go round like Ade is doing, all credit to you.
The next best option is to post them to the Engineer I have used whom will stand by his work with no Quibbles.
See the technical forums for full details!
All the Best
