Scum bags rule the world
I know this is non-vending related but there is a lesson here for everyone ..And I feel the need to pass it on.
I got a call today at 6.35pm from the Incident room in Omagh police station to say someone has kindly set fire to one of your houses. Please attend the scene. Got there at 7.05pm to see it completely burnt to the ground.
House -gutted
Me -gutted.
In all the things I have seen in my life ( and I've seen a lot , especially in this country) nothing prepared me for the sight that I looked at tonight. Word to the wise -- DO NOT EVER let fire come to your door.
Rang the insurance and after crime no's and statements , because the police say it's arson ,and CSI coming out tomorrow to confirm it , the lovely people in insurance say " sorry but your not insured for arson, goodbye"
So when someone steals a site off you , or someone asks for a free tub, or a box goes out of date , smile and thank your lucky stars that it is a problem , but one that you can fix easily.
I know , it's all relative and I am sounding more philosophical than usual , but give me a few days, a litre or two of the finest Irish whiskey, a couple of kegs of guinness and i'll be grand and back to my usual moany self.

Oh my god mate! That's terrible!
So sorry for you.
Insurance is an ****, those that really need it get shafted, yet people can go round making false claims all the time.
Your normally not insured against acts of war or typhoons too. Surely it's these things you WANT insurance for. Things that can happen unexpectedly.
So if some kid decides to drop a petrol bomb through your door for a laugh, your not insured and you end up without a house and in most cases still paying for it!
This world really is fucked up!!
I hope they/you catch the **** that did it.

Re: Scum bags rule the world
Thanks guys I appreciate the sentiment. Arson is never covered for landlords . CSI told me this morning a very good lesson.
People spend money alarming their home and keeping it secure and then go out and leave a window open slightly for fresh air. It's common for a burglar when he sees the alarm and knows it's too risky to break in, for him to put a match through the open window for spite. " if I can't rob it I'll burn it ". Lesson two , close the windows.

Didnt know about the arson thing with landlords, thats harsh. They say things happen for a reason but trying to find any reasoning behind that would be difficult to say the least. I dont know you personally but i do feel sympathy for you.Good guys dont deserve that.

Noel - that stinks.
Honestly, whats the point of insurance, they will try and get out of paying every time and hide there pathetic excuses in the small print.
I have a house which I rent and will be reviewing my landlords insurance, that for sure!
Hope you dont have a mortgage on it, do you?

Sorry to hear of your bad luck-
I would double check with your insurers.I used to underwrite landlords insurance in a former life & never came accross or would sell a policy which didnt cover arson. Some companies do exclude arson though if the property is unoccupied.
I have property rented out and when the last tenents left/evicted they wrote "c**t" on every carpet and wall with creosote. :wanker:

Thanks guys , yes I still owe £68000 on it . Value before fire was about £145000 ,now about £ 50,000 when you allow for any demolition and clearance. The insurance won't cover arson because the house was empty for more than 30 days even though we told the insurers. It needed decoration and a new bathroom so we were leaving it until winter when things were quieter to tackle as a project .
According to CSI the fire was started at the bottom of the stairs by lighting a mattress off one of the beds.
Oh well, the Jamesons is nearly gone so it's back to the grindstone Thursday tomorrow.
