Anyone here operate self service snack boxes?

Post by JustCraig »

I was given the opportunity to put a tower and/or 20p sweet machine in a largeish office but have decided to put a couple of self service snack box's in there instead (one on each floor).

The main reason is the cost is next to nothing (£5 for a couple of plastic storage boxes - £20 quid worth of stock at poundland and i'm good to go) - I also quite fancy trying it out to see how it goes. My main concern is the inevitable theft that will occur - I am prepared for a couple of packs of crisps or a couple of chocolate bars being taken and not being paid for (or being paid for with a couple of 2p's so that it looks like something has been put in the box) - If it goes well I may look at expanding this alongside my vending business that I am starting.

Does anyone on here have any experience? Tips and advice most welcome.

Search on the forum for Charity boxes and honesty boxes and you will get all the info you need. Speak to Brian from choice vending and he will tell you as he is still doing it. DON'T listen to what the suppliers tell you about it as they will only tell you the story from a supplier point of view. YOU need the story from an operator point of view. And don't buy from Poundland as it will be pricemarked. Buy from a cash and carry, it's cheaper. If you use price marked stuff they will only pay what it says on the packet, if they pay at all. You will need to sticker up the boxes too . If it was that easy, someone in the office will pinch your idea themselves. Don't make it look that easy to them.

Hi. I have knowledge of honesty boxes and quite honestly wouldn't waste my time. I used to work (regional manager) for a very well known company that also operated these boxes and you can take the figures as a pinch of salt!
