scammed

Post by Coin Operated Group »

Embarrassed to admit but I got done for £2500 buying equipment from ebay. Bought equipment, paid paypal and asked if he had any other equipment to which he offered me a good deal, day of collection when van was booked etc got a phone call saying paypal had rejected amount as it was over yearly limit (which I checked and was true) so agreed to pay into a Lloyds bank.

Well, 3 hour drive later arriving in Lincoln, the place knew nothing of the machines. OOps  £2500 down and to top it all off a very depressing drive back to sunny Birmingham.

Please guys don't be as foolish as me and never pay funds into someone else account no matter how good the deal

Matt

do you still have the details of the account you paid into? do you have a receipt/record? you can trace the guy quite easily... or just reverse the transaction at your bank

I am afraid I would not be so restrained I think i'd be looking for a tad of revenge type compensation . Sadly lots of scams seem to be appearing on ebay of late .. the tractor rallying boys were/are getting hit by people listing the item really low at say start bid of £ 244 then inm the listing says listing fpr a friend ..you can buy now for 2500 with an aol email addy to contact ..

Look on Money Saving Expert....search for...refunds when using Bank cards (the term chargeback rings a bell)....its not 100% certain but I received a big refund last year. You have to lodge the application with your bank within 90 days of the transaction. They may not know about chargeback but be persistent and keep going up the chain of command until you reach senior staff in the know. Best of luck...if u need any info just call me.

Really sorry to hear this Matt! I guess the only positives are you have learnt a lesson

It's only money mate not the end of the world so chin up. Can you claim the loss against your business so you could save a little bit of that in tax?

I lost 10k on a business that went wrong late last year and that hurt a lot but does get better over time

Yeh will put through business . Worst thing now is all fraud goes through action fraud now not police , and to say it is poor is an understatement.
