Re: New £1 coin farce
Most new plates need a bit of work to get them working properly. You are putting a new plate in a worn mech so the fit isnt perfect. There's not a lot in it but for me the easiest ones and best performing are the older clenport mechs. Sometimes it is easier to grind the existing mechs, ive done that with most of my newer clenports. Ive had a lot more problems with toy machines than sweets. As for free vending you are exactly correct. Ultimately it is a pain in the a**e but we have no choice and if you havent already done it you will definitely be losing sales.

Re: New £1 coin farce
My issue now is with Tomy mechs. I sent these off to be altered rather than do them myself as every time I'd taked a Tomy mech to pieces previously its never worked again. So I paid £10 per mech, ive had probably about 15 FREE vend on me and the machines emptied and the more recent problem seems to be that word has got out that these will vend on 2 x 20p as well as £1 coin. I went to one this morning that had been emptied, it had £18 x £1 coins and 72 x 20 pieces. Im now changing these mechs to brand new ones just taking the new coin.

I'm not sure how your Tomy mechs have been converted mate but it shouldn't be too difficult to alter them to just take the new coin and not the old or double 20p. In fact it's much easier to just get them to take the new. If you're going to discard them anyway and buy new mechs you have nothing to lose if you wreck and couple of mechs trying. I have refined my methods with the Tomy mechs quite a lot now and haven't had a single issue with free vends or 20p's. If you want to give it a go feel free to give me a call, I'd be happy to help you out.
Jay.
