Tower Barrells

Post by nivending »

How do you know when a towers barrel is worn and in need of replacement.

Majority of my towers are 4+ years old, Chinese origin with metal Barrells.

But I've a few that jam against the tub which is second in line with the barrel.
Also some that don't drop into the barrel during the vend if vended to quickly.

Segments are aligned and the dimpled ring is fine too.

Mech turns the barrell ok so I'm assuming it's the barrell that's the problem.

At £25 for a barrell it's not a cheap fix either!!

Cheers

I dont think they wear out. They break, but you know when that happens.
If it doesnt drop because of speed on the coin mech that tends to be an alighment problem. A good clean and maybe a new spring or restretched old one can help this.
Whos pots are you using, some jam more often.

Thanks Andy

Lost a site yesterday as the machine ate the coin with no vend and he'd had enough.

Struggling to get my head around why this happens along with the jam.

On the surface everything is aligned etc.

Using tubz vending but are Hurleys pots any better??

Any hurleys users out there could comment

Also if I switch can tubz vending and hurleys pots be mixed in the same tower?

Cheers

Ive never used tubz vending and Im not their biggest fan but I have heard their pots are more prone to jamming.

I dont have any problems with Hurleys. I wouldnt mix pots, thats inviting jams.

It only has to be 1mm out to not vend and that happens as the tower gets dirty and worn. If you can re stretch the spring, add an extra washer in the top, clean the bases using WD40 especially under the dimple ring that may help.

Good luck

I use both and I find tubz vending new pots do have some issues in the older metal barreled machines. Speak to tubz vending though as they will sell you an upgraded plastic barrel at a reduced cost and they will fit it for you free of charge if you send em your tower, apparently??

Hi NiVending

The vending drums do not wear out as they are made of a zinc alloy. If one did break you will know about it.

There are several reasons why the pots jam and I will describe as best I can the reasons.

It could be down to a worn coin mechanism. The rod that holds the handle in place which feeds through to the drum could be worn and it may be a little lose resulting in the drum being out of alignment by as little as a mm. Easy way to check is to take out coin mech and see if there is any play/looseness.

It could be the height of the pot which is critical to a successful vend.

It could be misalignment of the indexing wheel.

It could be the position of the coin mech where it sits on the body. If old and worn, the coin mech may sit lower in the body resulting in the drum being out of alignment as the coin mech is pulling down the drum slightly. The drum is riveted to the back but is not riveted to the front, hence possibility of being out of alignment.

Worn out Spring which sits on the indexing wheel.

It could be a combination of any of the above.

Hope this makes sense.
