Tower questions / maintenance help please :)

Post by newmark »

Hi all,

I've used the Christmas break to get my towers ready to go, but I've disovered a few things and have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help with, or point me in the right direction....

One one of my towers I noticed that the top section of the carousel is broken - it looks like the top bolt has been over tightened in the past. Are individual carousel sections available, or is it a case of buying a machine to use for spares?

One has a lid looser than the others - it doesnt seem to come off though, os a loose lid ok (it lifts maybe 5mm)?

Do I need to lubricate the "dimples", or are they meant to run dry? Some seem to "click" into position easier than the others.

I've got the machines nice and clean, loaded up, tested each with about £20 of goes to check works every time, and all ok! I'm keen to do everything I can before they go on site, as it will be easier to fix anything in my workshop than in a pub :)

Is there anything else I should do or check?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

I just use a bit of wd40 on the dimple ring. If one of your plastic sections is broken it sometimes works to swap it wth one lower down (it depends on what bit is broken) otherwise yes a nother machine because 1 new section will cost you about £12, compared to 60/70 for a tower full of spares. Dont worry about the lid if it doesnt come off.

Good luck

yes, cheapest way is to use a 2nd hand machine for spares.

Hi Mark,

If you have a tower that is not selecting positively enough simply put an extra washer under the top nut, this will give you the additional pressure required. lubricating the dimples will mainly reduce the friction when turning the carousel, this will prolong the life if the dimples, I use an all-purpose grease to maintain the barrier. A little on the back if a metal barrel is also a good idea, this will keep is turning smoothly. And a squirt of WD-40 in the coin mech if your not already doing that:)

Thanks everyone, sounds like some excellent advice.

I've not been using WD40, but will give that a go (pinball machines are my other hobby, and WD40 is a definite no no with them) so that has frightened me off using it in the past :)

Thanks Jay, I'll try the extra washer idea and lubricating the back of the metal barrel :) I've only got one machine with a metal barrel as the others are plastic, and I've noticed the plastic ones seem to turn a little easier. Are the plastic barrels newer that the metal ones?

Will keep an eye out for a second hand machine for spaces too!

Thanks again, Mark.
