Hows that work with HSBC do you have to bag it first then they check???

No, if you pay in via plastic money bags over the counter anywhere they never check to my knowledge, as they don't have any equipment to do so. Same as every branch.

What we use are the very large coin paying in machines that are in a small number of the newer HSBC branches (there are similar machines in some Barclays as well). You just pour big bags of assorted coins into it and it counts them and credits the total to your bank account. It also checks every coin and rejects fakes and tokens. It's great for paying in bigger amounts, as we often pay in £2-3k in one go and it takes a few minutes to do it, whereas counting that much into bags of 20 would be a real pain. They also have a note machine that takes notes if we get too many change-ups.

When I banked with Barclays three years ago I gave up on those machines as they seemed to jamm up every banking and none of the branch staff had been trained to un jamm it.
They had to call out a service engineer before they could credit the money to my account.
Needless to say, I no longer bank with Barclays, what a Joke!

Hopefully HSBC machines are more reliable, we dont have them in Lowestoft Branch??

Pretty reliable, plus if it does jam or needs emptying because it's full they do it in about 5 minutes, so still quicker than bagging thousands of coins.

I don't understand what you mean.

You stand in front of a machine and there are no staff members anywhere nearby or involved. The machine takes the coins in a giant tray/hatch and spits back out in a reject tray the ones it doesn't like. I usually try these again as often 50% or more of the coins that get rejected will be accepted if tried a few times. The rejected coins and trolley tokens you pick up and take away and do with as you please.

The machines are similar to the Coinstar ones that count change at Sainsburys etc but they take a huge commission for doing so.

On the non electronic vending towers i know that some coin mechs jam because the width of the fake coin is too wide.

Has other operators experienced this???

Yep, I have Kris and its a right pain as it gets wedged tight in the coin carrier putting the machine OOO (out of order)

I had this with a Pringles tower the other week. It happened the day after I serviced it and they didn't tell me about it until I walked through the door to service it again!
