As a newbie, what do you charge for site finding and if I can be cheeky what is your strategy? Do you just find a location and cold call and offer commision? How does it work, I have read all sorts where persons have paid xxx amount only to find the site rubbish and having to resite after a couple of weeks.

Dave is fair in his site finding pricing and is decent at it. Never a precise science - i try all means of finding sites from recommendations, friends, leaflet drops, cold calling. Best way to expand is buying out small rounds, they often get lazy and leave cash in machine to pay off decent amount for the round purchase.

Ok ta, is it the norm to go straight in with 20% commision as appears the status quo? Seems alot to me but then maybe I am being unrealistic?

With site finding the trick is to try and make sure that you have sites that have free flowing customers going throughn the premises on a daily basis... Basic facts really!!!

20% commission is normally the going rate unless you have either really high profile sites and do the commission on a sliding scale or you can actually get away at giving as little away as possible. But trying to get away with giving as lilttle as possible could leave you prone to other independants that dont know this forum or (should i swear on here) sinclair & collis try getting you booted from a site.
