Area Managers, a thorn in the side of operators.

Post by FlintVending »

If its one thing winding me up at the moment, its these guys.
There pet HATE seems to be the innocent toy capsule machine.
I have several F2s in East Of England Co ops, been there for years quietly making a few bob , entertaining Children and with such a small footprint they could not possibly be in anyones way, or so I thought?
Now, it seems, a certain area mgr has decided they are taking up space where a short term cardboard promotional dump bin could be.
He has also decided that the co op would make more profit from these flimsy cardboard bins than is derived from the vending machines, yet he dosnt know what the vending machines are taking.
After losing the umpteenth site to this faceless area mgr this year, I decided it was high time to make contact with him and I managed to get his mobile number off a store manager.
That was two weeks ago!
As you can imagine, only able to get his voice mail and he has not returned my call as requested.
Obviously, he sees himself far too impotant to even bother too return the call of a lowly vending operator.

I left a message informing him that he was close to driving me out of Business if he did not cease the removal requests as vending was my full time Job!
Dont know if he has a concience, but its all I could think to do?
Anyone else know a good way to tackle an onslaught by an area manager?

Nigel,

I was having a similar type of problem a while back, although not in the Co-op, i had a lot of breathalyzer within one company and new area manager was taking them out systematically, although in some venues there were getting £15-£20 week in commission.

I decided to go above the area manager, and made direct contact with the head office, i pulled on the heart strings a bit explained i was a single dad and this was my only source of income, and that they were missing out a good revenue stream and an excellent product. Within 3 days area manager was ringing me up apologizing asking me to put them back in.

May be a bit harder to get hold of the head office, but it's deff the way i would approach this, and really lay it on thick, that this is your livleyhood and without it you've got nothing ect ect.

Hope you get your machines back in.

In this day and age I don't think companies care about anyone but themselves.
They are all in big trouble and look after number 1.

I'd tell HO about the commission they get rather than your lively hood.

just my 2ps worth

Nigel why do you not ring these companies and tell them you are part of a group that has a multi million pound turnover and can cover nationwide giving you the same commissions as national companies but with a LOCAL SERVICE??? with a recession on I have found that so many big/national companies are all for local sponsorship, I win a hell of a lot of sites off major companies by just letting them know Im local.

Hi Matt,

I presume that when you talk about a group, you are meaning the forum members. You seem to have cracked this in your location, with national organisations. Could you not take it to the next level and see if you can get sites for forum members in their locationbs, for a fee. Just an idea.

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Not quite Im afraid!!! I predominantly deal with big vending machines and that is my way in, by pointing out I am local. If I get a lead and go against national companies I always (99%) win.

Unfortunately I dont deal with towers/toys anymore but I am trying to impress to members the importance of stating you are local and how it can help win contracts especially being part of a group that can offer national coverage.

As said before any member on here can approach major chains and let them know they are part of a national group.

Hopefully in the future there will be a lot more big vending machine operators on here and then I will be knocking on doors looking for national contracts and hopefully selling them on making a few quid on the way!!

Hope this makes sense as had a few beers!!!
Regards Matt
