Thanks for the comprehensive explanations both. Its just a pity that in this business everyone seems to either be afraid of the competition, or out to ruin the others business. Very sad indeed.
Thanks,
Paul

As an aside when you order toys wholesale, it is usual practice to have to register to see the prices as they are commercially sensitive...
These are solely my thoughts....
Hi Gavin,
We are not talking wholesale on this occasion, so I dont agree with your statement. In most similar business models, each organisation publishes their prices, usually online now. This information provides their customers with the information they need to make an informed choice. A customer should not have to ring a company to get the ir standard price info. I understand the comments made by Glen and Jonny and the need to protect a growing business, but I am not sure this is the way to do it.
Thanks,
Paul

I can totally understand why Glenn and Jonny do it. They were the first ones to bring prices down to a realistic level by publishing their prices. The rest of the suppliers then used Sweetfix prices to set prices and retain customers. Sweetfix were out in the open and offered all clients the one price. Other suppliers instead, used multi level pricing to the extreme. I could ring tubz vending today and give them the prices Jonny sent me and he would give me the £1 a box cheaper like his price match says. But I won't, even though I could save myself £75 a pallet. Why???? Because how do you think they can do that????? Because they're charging the operators who DON'T know about deals and multi level pricing a much higher price for their stock to gain back the discount he's giving me. Which is so unfair to those smaller not-in-the-know operators. And if Sweetfix keep publishing their prices they are not doing tubz vending operators any favors. They would be contributing to the spiraling prices. Prices are prices and big orders get a discount, that'ss the same in any business, but multi level pricing where they chance their hand to get the highest price possible from the client is not on. Sure they tried that on me last week. Hence the move.

Noel

Please correct me but I dont remember Hurleys ever using multi level pricing to the extreme. I can fully understand how Sweetfix have operated, but if you see a price list, you can compare it with another.

Paul

Re: Pricing and Suppliers...My Experience...Have your say
I was talking about tubz vending as you can see above Paul. Do you use hurleys???? If so I am not going to say anything about their pricing, that's between you and them. . All you have to do Paul is ring the three suppliers, give them an idea of the quantity you would be ordering and you will get their pricelists. They don't have to publish them publicly , you can still get them easily by ringing. Some industries publish prices to compete, some only send them to you on request. It's the multi level pricing which is driving companies to keep their prices unpublished. Years ago for example, tubz vending had one price if you ordered by phone and a cheaper price if you ordered over the internet. I talked them into giving me the internet prices but by phone order. Good for me , but other people lost out. Get all three pricelists for yourself, then negotiate. the bigger your order the stronger your hand for negotiating. that's business. But that is totally different from multi level pricing.

Hi Noel,
I fully understand the procedures. I just wanted to clarify that point.
Thanks,
Paul

We have had 3 pricelists from Hurleys including this latest offer . Everyone is therefore free to draw their own conclusions. ALL sweet suppliers that I have dealt with engage in multi level pricing. I think that is what you were really asking me . Rob is a good guy , don't get me wrong. Sweetfix asked for my quantities and only gave me one pricelist which is the same as everyone elses I presume. It's the same one as they gave me last year as well. It's now up to me to negotiate for what I can get.

Hi Noel,
I understand that suppliers are offering different prices to gain new accounts. This is normal I think. Reading between the lines, it seems to me that you have come to the conclusion that I am posting to support Rob, but that is not true. As I stated earlier I am happy with the relationship I have with Hurleys. Clearly Ade is doing this perfectly well for Sweetfix and if he is receiving good service, then I have no issues. I asked questions about transparency of pricing thats it really.
