The good thing about the ones Coldplay use and what Lee is thinking of using, is that they are all in sync with each other.
They listen to 1 central transmitter and do as told. It looks absolutely amazing and I reckon could be really cool in a disco.
Using an app or the tech used in lighting tends to just randomise flashing, but in time to the beat of music.
I've found an app that flashes in time to music, the trick would be to sync them.

DMX 512 thats my kinda thing. sad as it may be i spent about 7500 on a lighting rig for my house. mrs wasnt to pleased. used about 5 times then sold.
