Hot Nuts

Post by Snackmore »

What do you think guys? Anyone any experience? The concept has been around years and used to see a lot of Sahara nuts machines in pubs (where the staff had to serve you) but they seem to have gone now.

Seems pricey for £1200 a machine and you have to do your own siting

I've seen a few bar top machines selling hot nuts in some of my sites. On closer inspection I saw a Sinclair Collis label on them! So they are still about.

Those of you whom attended AVEX 2011 would have seen this machine about three stands away from our own.

We did have a chat with them and they seemed nice enough blokes, for an operator like me the business is fundamentally flawed and anyone operating towers will get this immediately in that sourcing the containers and compliant product is the hard part... the first thing anyone will do (as they have done with tubs) is to source the content in the traditional 'oh I can do anything you can do better'. With nuts, well, you can get the cheap nuts in Asda for about the same cost as buying wholesale although you'd need to snip many bags open and saying that it keeps your stock fresh. So for suppliers it's a non-starter but for operators...

The operators can make a good margin but the cost of the machine was a serious concern, stainless steel or not this could be produced for a couple of hundred quid but due to the points above we didn't bother. So if you can get a cheap machine and no doubt the Chinese are working on it as we speak sure what the hell go for it. Other than that ask yourself where you'd put this in many of your sites, on the bar, is there space... Having to pull out a cup, you know what's going to happen with that when some drunkard thinks they are a comedian. Would you trust the machine as a customer, it's a big hot bacterial box of greasy hot nuts which will look manky in time.

Worth a punt at a few hundred but at a grand plus, nah.

Think we might be missing something here guys!!!

This will be an easy add on to a lot of sites we are already in! How much does the site make per pot sold? And how much does it cost per tub?

Someone is selling a round in west London and looks like he is doing well if the figures are true

Wonder if Cleneport or Zenjet are in the process of making a cheaper machine???

Cheers

They seem to have been taken out of the pubs I visit (where they used to be years ago) there must be a reason why?

They probably weren't looked after properly!!

I think this would be a good little side line for us!

I do think we all need to be more entrepreneurial and forward thinking. Inventions/ new revenue streams aren't going to just fall into our laps we need to find them and make it happen.

Imagine if we created an industry like the tower vending which we could easily add onto our existing business! We have the sites so most the work is done already.

Well I am willing to give it a go, if Sinclair are latching onto the idea its got to be worth it? Who knows where to get machines and stock and prices?
