when screwing in the metal strip, how do you know the barrel is in the correct position?

Do you leave the coin mech on and push it up and then apply the metal strip and screw it in?

When coin mechs in push it up so no play then scribe 2 marks in the holes in the plate.Remove plate, drill pilot holes, screw plate on.
