I was doing catering last year, nice little earner, and good margins.

The best advice I can give you is don't be greedy!!
People usually ruin their catering business in the end by cutting back on quality/portion size to make an extra couple of quid. Customers disappear very quickly.
Also, always be thinking of new lines/products, just like in vending people get sick of seeing the same thing week in week out.

Always put your self in the customers place and think to yourself A: would I eat that? and B: would I pay that much?

Good luck! :-)

What type of catering are you doing mike?

I was doing a kind of meals on wheels service for a bunch of old folk in a retirement complex, really easy to do and good margins. Only problem was I lost customers quite frequently (for obvious reasons!), so in the end I would have had to increase prices or cut back on portions or quality to maintain a good income. I decided I would rather not do it than do it badly!

Seems like you've bought a much larger operation though!

Mainly corporate buffets, it just suited me as it has drivers and premises which we were looking for anyway , so thought it was a win win as its already paying for itself
