I think one problem was that they get nicked/vandalised.

Hello, long time no speak!

OP the best machines for reliability are the Beautiful Vending ones, i have never had a problem with the mechanics and build quality.

I actually got rid of my GHD's a couple of months back.

They do ok but only in certain venues. The obvious locations are busy bars and nightclubs, HOWEVER, they get a lot of damage.
The customers try to pull the GHD off the machine to take it home with them or they just smash the straightner against a wall and smash the ceramic irons.

The irons cost around £80-90 a pop!!

The best locations from my experience (although not as much revenue but less damage) are Hotel gyms and Spa's.
These places attract a decent customer who really do appreciate the machine. One of my customers (Qhotels) wanted a machine because a number of their regualr customers wouldn't use the pool because they couldn't sort their hair afterwards!

The machine went down a storm with those customers. It did around £7-£10 per week. If you can pick up a cheap Beautiful vending one on Ebay for £80-100 then it's worth a go.

One thing to consider however is you will need an electrician to install the machine and take it out. Mine cost me £120 a time for each install.

I have never had a call out for the hotel machine but the pub ones ALL got smashed up!
