New £1 coin

Post by cliffxtc »

Anybody know if they will work in our existing coin mechs? Or do we need a modification? Please not new mechs all round!

Difficult to know , as only a picture available. Our local tv station highlighted a vending company, who said he would need to alter all his mechs. Some articles say it will be same diameter, but a little thicker. Does anyone know how to get hold of a sample. Its not coming in until 2017, but if the current mechs don't work with both coins, then we will be shafted.

Bl00dy annoying and more expense having updated all my mechs for the new 5/10p coins last year. I can see us having to change all the mechanical mechs although this may be an opportunity to go for a £1.20 mech or £1.50???

I'm led to believe that it is almost exactly the same shape as a old three penny piece, only slightly thicker as the three penny was only as thick as a 50p. I got one to try and it seems that it should be ok diameter wise, and will only be a problem if it's not thick enough.

This requirement shall vary per machine type.

Electronic validation systems shall be relatively easy as the validator can be programmed with a new code / learn the coin, where we intend to keep both the new and old coin for at least a year to allow for the introduction of the new coin at sacrifice of one channel.

I hear that this new coin could be similar to the one Euro in physical dimensions. Obviously those machines which 'stack' multiple coins in a track will need tweaked, however the heptagonal shape may cause a variation in the coin stack height which will increase relatively for higher value items.

Physical validators will suffer the worst, the old PVM two column will be as good as junk, Autonumis a problem and Beaver could be a heartache. No matter what machines you operate, between now and 2017 start saving some funds for potential upgrade costs else your business could be dead very quickly...

The AVA were consulted apparently however I've yet to see details on this, nor am I aware of potential government compensation on offer.

If they didn't compensate last time why would they now.

If the mint/government had anyone with a small amount of sense they would have bought all 3 coins out at once to save us having to send every coin mech off again for upgrading.
