Just to add, I was involved in a similar incident a few years ago involving purchasing none existent concert tickets via ebay. Individually the police couldn't care less about my relatively small loss, when collectively they realised the total amount was £10,000+ they investigated the matter and got a conviction.
So if you have lost money to Joe, no matter how much, please log it here. You never know what might come of it, the other incidents investigation started from a forum thread too!
