Re: Clenport M81 design fault
Just out of interest, have you tried taking the top segment off the machine, jamming the lid on and then trying to remove it?
If it is as you say too tight to be removed from the top ring, I would send it back to them and ask them for a load of replacements. Anything bought over the phone (or internet) is covered by the distance selling regulations, and will therefor have to be replaced if it is not fit for purpose. The only problem you might have is most companies have a ''back to base warranty'' in their terms and conditions, which means you have to pay to get the faulty parts back to them to be fixed.

As soon as I got the first lid off I started comparing the new machines with older machines I have had for a few years.pjo wrote:I don't remember now, but are the chinese plastic segments a little bit smaller than clenports? If yes, repleace top clenport segment with chinese segment, and try to put lid on it.

I took a lid off an old machine and tried it on the new tower but it was difficult to get it on, I then tried the new tower's lid on an old machine and it fitted fine so it became obvious the problem was with the new segments - not the lids. I then replaced the top segment of the new tower with an older Clenport segment and put the new lid on.....guess what - it fits fine. The difference between the old and new segments is not much but it is noticeable, and it's obviously enough to make the lids a very tight fit.
As you say, it probably works with Chinese segments also but I haven't got around to trying that yet. Thanks for your input PJO, I appreciate the help.

Re: Clenport M81 design fault
I bought them direct from Clenport in Portugal, I have contacted them but no response as yet. If they could send me some old-style segments I think I would be happy with that as I could just replace all the top segments then the lids would fit ok, sending segments back to Portugal is so expensive it wouldn't be worth it.Mark@YorVend wrote:Just out of interest, have you tried taking the top segment off the machine, jamming the lid on and then trying to remove it?

I had the same problem with the first batch of machines I bought from Hurleys over 18 months ago. The solution was as suggested above, to replace the top segment with a smaller one. But if you're then sticking a paper Childline label on the top segments of the machine, it looks rubbish and wears quicker because of the step change in segment sizes

Re: Clenport M81 design fault
This is not a design fault, I've bought new Clenports each year for the last few years, all working ok. You have faulty machines, not fit for purpose - don't waste your time trying to get lids off, return to supplier for refund! I would need convincing before calling them Clenports.

Miguel, the owner of Clenport speaks English! I only got that problem when mixing Chinese lids with Clenport segments, very tight fit immovable! Maybe Clenport have been buying up cheap components from China, not compatible with each other! I've got a few suppliers in Portugal - may pay them a visit in the spring.

Re: Clenport M81 design fault
I thought this was a really isolated problem.
I think it must have been 1 dodgy batch...
Have had Clenports in lately and they haven't got this issue.
The spare rings I have in from Clenport all seem to be the right size.
If I can help, please give me a call on 02920 889979

Re: Clenport M81 design fault
I heard back from Clenport a few days after my last post, Miguel offered to send me new lids with "a thinner layer of chrome" to replace the originals as it was easier than sending new segments. They took a few weeks to arrive and I have been away for a bit myself so I didn't get to try them until last week, all I had to do was swap the lid lock from the originals to the new lids and they now seem to fit onto the towers ok.
I still have the hassle of removing the original lids but at least it won't cost me anything. I know it's been a while but I thought it's only fair to let people know that Clenport put the situation right.
