Hi guys, my poor old van went in for a service today and the nice mechanic phoned me before starting the service to tell me that there was little point in carrying out said service and spending my money as the poor thing has just weeks to live.
So new van time. But the dilema is, lease or purchase? Pros and cons?
It need to have 3 seats in the front for school runs, so really a Berlingo or Partner. Has anyone got amazing deals on buying or leasing a new one of these?
Thanks in advance
Andy

I toyed with a Berlingo as also need the seat but went in the end for a Vivaro and although bigger has been so useful. Had it professionally racked out (it was already ply lined) and it has been fab.
I spoke with the accountant and he advised outright purchase.. Was looking at part cash and part loan but managed a family interest free loan which is nearly paid off now. Bonus!
Averaging 35 mpg and as a 13 plate had nothing go wrong as yet

Re: New Van needed
Ive averaged over 50 out of my Berlingo Steve. I dont think I could justify the Vivaro for the extra money. I try and look at it as a work horse and get the best value as I can. The extra space would be very rarely used.
I can get a brand new Berlingo for 8k + vat. I would rather have a Partner but for some reason whilst exactly the same they are at least a grand more!

Fiat Oblo Cargo is worth a shout. Won van of the year and is pretty efficient . 1.3 litre diesel does around 45mpg. 2 litre is slightly better mpg. Drives like a car. I bought mine from a private garage that takes all ex council vans, so I know it's been looked after.

Re: New Van needed
I cant see that the Doblo comes with three seats up front. I have to have this for school runs.
Ive narrowed it down to 2 Berlingos, but its wether I go brand new, on the road for 9.5K or 1 year old, 8000 miles for 7.5k
Decisions decisions!!!!

I nearly bought the Berlingo Enterprise - had all the bells and whistles and 3 seats.
I think it depends on how many miles you do personally the 1 year old sounds like the better deal if its the right spec/colour and presumably has 2 years warranty left?
Are you VAT registered? I had to find the right deal where the VAT had already been paid.....
Can you part ex the dead one as well?

Re: New Van needed
Hi Andy
We used a fleet of the latest Ford Transit Connect. The most useful for the business is the 'L2' Long wheel base with side door. The vans are capable of 50 mpg and drive and handle like a modern car.
Peter bought a luxury version, The 'Trend' for himself and I know he will be wanting to sell it shortly. 2014 with 4.5k miles on the clock and in mint condition only used for domestic odd jobs. It has 3 seats, air con, ply lined and blue tooth stereo/telephone connection, colour coded bumpers etc.
PM me if you are interested.
Regards,
Barbara

Re: New Van needed
Thanks Barbara, that would have been perfect but Ive got one now.
I went for the 2nd hand one. 7.5k, decent deal because no VAT and it is a top of the range Berlingo, ie bluetooth, parking sensors, satnav and only 8000 miles. Absolutely immaculate, got it from a Thai bloke who got stitched up buying it new a year ago. He only got it to drive his mountain bike from Coventry to Wales and back once a month. Hes now decided its too small so is gonna get stitched up buying a brand new VW transporter.

Sounds like you got yourself a good deal with a decent spec'd van.
